The Brunei Educational Travel Online Seminar, co-organized on August 26 by the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam, Royal Brunei Airlines, and the ASEAN-Japan Centre, highlighted Brunei Darussalam’s growing appeal as a destination for educational travel. The seminar showcased the country’s safety, English-speaking environment, rich natural heritage, Islamic culture, and warm hospitality while presenting practical examples of educational programmes and local support systems.
Advantages of Brunei Darussalam
His Excellency Mr. WAN HADFI Lutfan bin Haji Abdul Latif, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to Japan emphasized the long-standing friendship between Brunei and Japan and highlighted Brunei’s unique strengths as a safe, welcoming, and English-speaking destination.
Mr. Hiroshi Kanazawa of Tomeikan Gakuen explained that visiting a relatively unfamiliar country encourages students to think critically, broaden their perspectives, and develop deeper global awareness. Topics such as Islamic culture, sustainability, social systems, and the future of resource-dependent economies provide meaningful learning opportunities.

Outcomes and Impact
The survey received 79 responses. All respondents said that their understanding of Brunei had either improved or improved significantly, while 75 respondents (approximately 95%) expressed interest in planning or organising educational or leisure travel to Brunei. The findings indicate that the seminar not only strengthened awareness but also generated strong interest in developing concrete travel programmes. Respondents particularly valued Brunei’s safety, English-speaking environment, school exchanges, homestays, Islamic culture, rainforest experiences, and affordability.
