Innovating for Ageing Societies: Japan and Singapore Connect to Explore Technology and Care Solutions for the Future

Executive Summary

On 25 March 2026, the ASEAN–Japan Centre (AJC), in collaboration with Enterprise Singapore (ESG) and Ageing Asia, organized the webinar “Singapore Technologies for an Ageing Society.” The webinar brought together Singapore technology companies and Japanese stakeholders to explore innovative solutions and business collaboration opportunities in elderly care, healthcare technology, and smart living solutions. The event represents a concrete collaboration between AJC and ESG to promote innovation, business partnership, and solution development for ageing societies in Japan, Singapore, and across ASEAN.

Introduction

Ageing populations are rapidly reshaping societies and economies across Asia. Japan is one of the most advanced ageing societies in the world, while Singapore is actively developing innovative technology solutions to address ageing-related challenges. As many ASEAN countries are expected to face similar demographic trends in the coming years, collaboration between Japan and Singapore can play an important role in developing practical and scalable solutions for the region. This webinar was organized as part of the ASEAN–Japan Centre’s efforts to promote innovation and business collaboration between Japan and ASEAN.

Objectives and Goals

The webinar aimed to introduce Singapore ageing-related technologies to Japanese companies and elderly care operators, share market insights and technology trends related to ageing societies in Asia, and facilitate business collaboration opportunities between Singapore and Japanese companies. The event also aimed to strengthen cooperation between the ASEAN–Japan Centre and Enterprise Singapore in promoting innovation and partnerships in ageing-related industries.

Activities and Highlights

The webinar featured a market insight presentation by Ageing Asia, followed by presentations from five Singapore companies offering innovative solutions across key areas of ageing society.

Ageing Asia highlighted a key shift in the ageing economy—from a traditional care-focused model to one centered on independence, purpose, and “ageing-in-place,” emphasizing the growing importance of the “silver economy” across Asia.

Singapore companies presented a range of practical solutions:

  • Neurowyzr introduced digital cognitive screening tools to support early detection of cognitive decline and preventive healthcare approaches.
  • SoundEye presented a fall detection system using depth imaging technology, designed to improve safety while preserving privacy in elderly care environments.
  • EYO showcased plant-based nutritional solutions addressing malnutrition risks among elderly populations, highlighting the role of nutrition in preventive care.
  • Buddy of Parents introduced a home-based monitoring and emergency response system enabling elderly individuals to live independently with 24/7 support.
  • Dex-Lab demonstrated AI-enabled humanoid robots designed to support elderly care through interactive therapy, engagement, and operational support.

Participants from Japanese companies, healthcare providers, and elderly care operators joined the webinar and actively engaged in discussions with the speakers. Questions focused on technology implementation, pilot projects in Japan, and potential partnership opportunities with Japanese companies.

The webinar provided an opportunity for Singapore companies to better understand the needs of the Japanese market, while Japanese stakeholders gained insights into innovative technologies and new approaches to elderly care and healthcare services.

Outcomes and Impact

The webinar contributed to strengthening connections between Singapore technology companies and Japanese stakeholders and helped identify potential areas for future collaboration. The event also strengthened cooperation between the ASEAN–Japan Centre and Enterprise Singapore and created a foundation for future collaboration in ageing-related industries and healthcare innovation.

Key Takeaways

  • Ageing societies are creating new demand for healthcare, elderly care services, and assistive technologies across Japan and ASEAN.
  • There is a growing shift from care-focused models to solutions that support independence and ageing-in-place.
  • Technology and innovation can support elderly care services and help address labour shortages in the care sector.
  • Collaboration between Singapore technology companies and Japanese companies has strong potential, particularly in pilot projects and technology deployment.
  • Platforms that connect companies, technology providers, and care operators are important to accelerate innovation and implementation across the region.

Way Forward and Engagement

Building on this initiative, the ASEAN–Japan Centre will continue to work with Enterprise Singapore and partners to promote business collaboration, partnership development, and future initiatives in ageing-related industries and healthcare sectors. Such collaboration is expected to contribute not only to Japan and Singapore, but also to ASEAN countries facing similar demographic challenges in the future.
