About AJYELN

AJYELN is an ongoing commitment that has evolved from ASEAN-Japan Eco-School, which provided online lectures on marine plastic waste in elementary and secondary school students in selected ASEAN member states (AMS) and Japan in 2021-2022. Seeing the leadership potential among these young students, the AJYELN was developed as a nurturing ground for young leaders with a passion for the environment and committed to bring about change in their local communities.

Selected from the 10 AMS and Japan, these thirty-seven champions have undergone rigorous training, emerging with innovative solutions to combat environmental challenges, particularly focusing on plastic pollution and marine plastic waste. Their initiatives have been brought to life in their respective communities through a funding system facilitated by the ASEAN-Japan Centre.

This program is supported by the Japan Ministry of Environment; Brunei Ministry of Education STEP Centre; Cambodia Ministry of Environment; Lao PDR Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Malaysia Ministry of Natural Resources; Environment, and Climate Change; Philippines Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau; East Asia Research Institute – Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris (ERIA-RKCMPD); and the ASEAN Youth Organization.
