Digital Skills for Green Tourism Enterprises: Training of Trainers

The ASEAN-Japan Centre and Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism, in coordination with Asian Development Bank, with support of Department of Tourism of People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province, co-organized a training of trainers on Digital Skills for Green Tourism Enterprises in Hue city, Viet Nam.

・The program aimed to equip ASEAN mid-level government officials and private sector tourism industry association members with the practical knowledge and skills needed to promote digital skills adoption and teach tourism enterprises how to use digital solution to become more competitive, innovative, and resilient.

・This 5-day highly interactive program, combined with instructor and participant-led session fostered an open exchange of ideas and experiences. The training included case studies, problem-solving exercises, role-play simulations, and group presentations.

・Technical field visits were arranged to interview green and sustainable tourism enterprises in Hue City to deepen the participants’ understanding of the actual constraints faced by tourism enterprises.

・At the end of the training, participants divided by the country developed and presented a training action plan based on the learnings.

Voice of participants

The evaluation survey conducted post-program indicated the following;

・95% of the respondents agreed that they were exposed to concepts, tools, lessons, practical skills needed to teach tourism.

・90% of respondents agreed that they would be able to use new knowledge gained from the training to design and implement follow-on digital technology tourism training or mentoring for tourism MSMEs in my country.

・95% of respondents agreed that they were able to develop a network of tourism planners and trainers and digital technology practitioners and share knowledge and experience and collaboratively learn from each other.

・Participants showed their intention of applying knowledge gained in the training and shared their planning.

“The plan that has been proposed during the training session will be submitted to the Ministry in order to facilitate a training MSMEs”

“We will organize seminar/s specifically focusing on MSMEs on content creation for digital platforms and sales generation.” 

“As an educator, I will revise some marketing modules in our program to keep it up to date with real case studies.”
