The Philippines is among the world’s top contributors to marine plastic pollution, and in coastal cities like Tagbilaran, the problem is deeply tied to everyday systems such as wet markets and consumption habits. As Boholanos, we believe that addressing the plastic crisis requires more than bans—it requires people working together. 

PLASTICS (People Leading Action and Sustainable Transformation In Communities) Solutions and Policy Lab is a youth-led initiative that brings together students, teachers, market vendors, consumers, and policymakers to co-create solutions to plastic pollution at the community level. Through research, dialogue, pilot testing, and policy advocacy, we transform lived experiences in public markets into evidence-based recommendations for local governance. 

By using a whole-of-community approach, PLASTICS positions youth not just as advocates, but as facilitators who bridge education, markets, and policymaking. We envision communities where reducing plastic waste is a shared responsibility—and where local action contributes to healthier oceans, stronger policies, and more sustainable futures.
