Introduction

This webinar, “Japan’s Market Development of Carbon Trade in the Indonesian Forestry Sector,” explores how Japan and Indonesia are advancing forest-based carbon markets as part of their net-zero strategies. It examines Japan’s experience in developing transparent and well-regulated carbon trading systems, including policy frameworks, market mechanisms, and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) standards, and considers how these lessons can support Indonesia’s growing forestry-based carbon trade under its FOLU Net Sink 2030 program.

The session will highlight opportunities for bilateral cooperation, investment, and capacity building, while also addressing key challenges such as market integrity, regulatory clarity, land tenure, and social and environmental safeguards. By bringing together research insights and practitioner perspectives, the webinar aims to identify practical pathways for strengthening high-integrity carbon markets and promoting sustainable, nature-based solutions across ASEAN and Japan.

Registration is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
