About ASEAN-Japan Centre


The ASEAN-Japan Centre operates under the guidance of its Council, Executive Board and Secretariat.

The COUNCIL consists of eleven Directors, appointed by, and representing, each member government of the ASEAN-Japan Centre. It is the supreme policy-making body of the organization, and exercises the powers and functions such as the approval of the Annual Work Program and Budget and the appointment of the Secretary General. The Council generally meets once a year around December to March in Tokyo. A chairperson is elected on a yearly basis at the annual meeting for the following year.

The EXECUTIVE BOARD  consists of 11 representatives appointed by each Member States, and supervises and gives advice to the Secretariat on implementing policies and directions given by the Council. 

The SECRETARIAT is headed by the Secretary General, who  represents the Centre and is responsible to the Council; and consists of the Planning & Coordination Office, Trade & Investment and Tourism & Exchange Division. It is the executive arm of the organization and  executes the annual program and implements the decisions of the Council.
