Webinar on Non-Equity Modes of Trade in Indonesia

Since 2018, the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) has been publishing studies on Non-Equity Modes of trade (NEMs) in selected ASEAN countries. NEMs are contractual relationships between foreign transnational corporations (TNCs) and local companies in a particular country that do not necessarily take the form of equity, as in the case of foreign direct investment (FDI). These forms of non-equity relations present new opportunities for ASEAN countries to attract foreign TNCs to establish business relationships with local companies.

In this context, based on a technical paper on NEMs in Indonesia, AJC will conduct a webinar to discuss its existing forms in the country: (1) contract farming in the agricultural sector, (2) subcontracting in the footwear sector, (3) franchising in the retail-sector, fast-food and convenience stores, and (3) licensing and contract management in the hotel sector. The webinar will also draw feedback and insights from Indonesian trade officials and members of the related industry and business sectors where NEMs operate.
