Tourism & Exchange Division invited students whose major is tourism from CLMTV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam – Mekong five countries) to attend the Youth Exchange Program 2012. A total of 30 participants including five officers from the respective National Tourism Organizations enjoyed the group discussion and presentation with Japanese students, learned from various lectures such as Japanese culture and tradition, environment in Japan, and trends of Japanese overseas travelers to ASEAN countries, in Tokyo. The group then moved to Tohoku region to learn how Sendai Airport coped with the earthquake and Tsunami disaster, visited Hiraizumi, a designated World Heritage site, as well as Miyako City region to see Sanriku Reconstruction National Park to study environmental issues and disaster prevention.
The participants showed keen interest in each program, and expressed that they wished to bring back this fruitful feedback to their home countries. In particular, the result of evaluation review sheet shows that they were most impressed with communication and discussion with Japanese students. From the luster in the eyes of the participants and the result of evaluation review sheet, the Centre is convinced of their strong leadership in the ASEAN countries in future, and believe this program will contribute to closer friendship between ASEAN countries and Japan in the medium- and long-term.
