The Centre conducted Seminars in the Philippines and Malaysia as follows:
February 18, 2013 Manila (Philippines): 56 participants
February 21, 2013 Malacca (Malaysia): 67 participants
These Seminars were a follow-up activity to the Workshop which had been conducted in November 2012 in Tokyo and Ise City, by inviting management-level tourism stakeholders from the government and private sectors in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philppines and Singapore.
Undersecretary Danilo Corpuz of the Philippine Department of Tourism and Mr. Ahmad Esa, Acting Director, International Promotion Division, Tourism Malaysia respectively made opening remark at the Seminars. Mr. Kusube, Executive Director of Japan Ecotourism Society cum Marketing Director of Picchio Co., Ltd, delivered a presentation on cultural heritage tourism in Japan, while the Workshop participants reported on their experiences in Japan. A local tourism expert in the respective countries also updated the audience on the local cultural and heritage tourism and issues, followed by a panel discussion.
In both countries, participants took part in the program positively, and it was impressive to see that the stakeholders were seriously considering ways to utilize their rich cultural heritage as a tourism attraction and to conserve them at the same time.
The Seminar will be conducted in Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei Darussalam) on March 18 and 21 respectively.
