Date : December 27 -30, 2011

Venue : Sabah, Malaysia

This project, which aims to promote international exchange between youth in ASEAN countries and Japan, is implemented in collaboration with Sabah Tourism Board. Since badminton is one of the most popular sports and there are some world top badminton players in Malaysia, it is very attractive for Japanese badminton players to play with players in Malaysia.

Professor Ikarugi, a badminton coach at Konan University Kobe, was very interested in this project, and decided to join this tour with four students who are top badminton players at Konan University from December 27 to 30, 2011.

During the stay in Sabah, Mr. Yapp Su Chiew, a badminton coach of Sabah Badminton Team gave an intensive training to the Japanese players, and on the last day of training, the Japanese players and Sabah Badminton Team including one of the National Badminton Team players had exciting games.

On the first day, The Daily Express, a local newspaper, interviewed the group from Japan and the article was featured on the newspaper on December 29 and 30, 2011.

The three-day international exchange for youth under the ASEAN-Japan Centre’s sports project was extremely well received by both of the Malaysian and Japanese students.

AJC set up another tour departing on February 23, 2012 to offer opportunities for more students.
