The Centre conducted Seminars in BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Area) as follows:
February 14, 2011 Makassar (Indonesia): 63 participants
February 17, 2011 Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei Darussalam): 41 participants
February 18, 2011 Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia): 46 participants
The Seminars were a follow-up activity to the Workshop which had been conducted in November 2010 in Tokyo and Karuizawa, by inviting manager-level tourism stakeholders from the government and private sectors in BIMP-EAGA.
Mr. Kusube, Executive Director of Japan Ecotourism Society, delivered presentation on ecotourism in Japan, while the Workshop participants reported on their experiences in Japan. A local tourism expert in the respective countries also updated the audience on the local ecotourism situation, followed by a panel discussion.
In all countries, participants eagerly asked questions, and there were active discussions on such topics as how to conduct nature conservation, or how to apply Japanese-style ecotourism method to their region. It was impressive to know that many of them are seriously considering ways to utilize their rich natural heritage as a tourism attraction.
The Seminar will be conducted in Davao, Philippines on March 8.
