Tourism & Exchange Division invited manager-class officers of National Tourism Organizations and travel trade sector from BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Area) to attend the Workshop. A total of 19 participants included Head of the BIMP-EAGA Facilitation Centre based in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, and two self-financed participants. After lecturs in Tokyo on the latest Japanese tourism market and ecotourism, the group left for Karuizawa for hands-on learning experinece of ecotourism at the PICCHIO Wildlife Research Center and its neighborhood. The participants showed their keen interest in the practical information, and expressed that they wished to utilize the information back in their countries.
Additionally, the Centre arranged the participants to meet with representatives of Nagano Prefecture and Karuizawa City’s tourism promotion organizations, to enhance two-way tourism promotion.
In February and March 2011, a follow-up seminar will be organized in each country where the Workshop participants will share their experience in Japan with local tourism stakeholders.
