<Report> ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019
Dates: January 15-18, 2019 Place: Ha Long, Vietnam   The ASEAN-Japan Centre participated in the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) in Ha Long, Vietnam.  The ATF is an annual tourism meeting/event which has been organized in the ASEAN Member States in January.  During the one-week period, tourism meetings including tourism ministers’ meeting and seminars are held as well as a travel exhibition at a nearby exhibition facility. Workshop on accessible tourism was organized
ASEAN-Japan Centre organized “ASEAN-Japan Workshop on Accessible Tourism” in Tanjung Pandan, Indonesia to promote accessible tourism. The workshop was co-organized with the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia by inviting tourism stakeholders from Indonesia as well as from other ASEAN Member States. The theme was picked up in line with the discussion at the 21st Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers that ASEAN needed to further progress the inclusive tourism in the region. Tourism Marketing Events in Vietnam and Myanmar
The ASEAN-Japan Centre co-organized “Workshop on Tourism Product Development” in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and “Tourism Marketing Seminar” in Mandalay, Myanmar. The objectives of this workshop and seminar were to provide necessary knowledge to attract Japanese tourists and also to facilitate the implementation of ​​MRA-TP (Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Tourism Professionals).   More than 180 people involved in tourism and hospitality industries attended the workshop/seminar. In Vietnam, after each presentation, an open forum was conducted and attendees participated actively. <Report>Participation in Okinawa Tabi Festa 2018
The ASEAN-Japan Centre participated in Okinawa Tabi Festa 2018 from November 23-24, 2018. Okinawa Tabi Festa is a tourism consumer event to encourage Okinawa residents to travel outside of the island. Total of 65 exhibitors from domestic and international destinations, mostly with a direct access to Okinawa, participated in this event to introduce their tourism attractions.   At the exhibition booth, AJC distributed brochures of ASEAN travel information, introduced the winning products of the Mekong Tourism Award 2017, and AJC’s effort to promote ASEAN Tourism through SNS, and provided the craft experience corner where participants decorated paper fans using stamps of ASEAN icons. <Report>The Training Program on Interpretation in Japan
The ASEAN-Japan Centre invited site managers of national parks/natural heritage sites and officers from national tourism office and natural resource management offices from 8 ASEAN Member States to participate in the training program on interpretation in Japan. After receiving lectures in Tokyo, the participants moved to Fujinomiya city in Shizuoka, which is a city located at the foothills of Mt. Fuji inscribed as a World Heritage site. The program included inspections of community-based ecotours that incorporate the interpretation method, lectures by the experts and the city’s Tourism Division that explained the importance of the partnership of the public and the private sectors in developing a responsible local tourism. <Report> ASEAN-Japan Centre(AJC)participated in Tourism EXPO Japan 2018
Tourism EXPO Japan is the biggest travel fair in Japan, participated in by 136 countries and regions from around the world including prefectures of Japan, as well as 1,441 companies and organizations from tourism industry.   AJC promoted ASEAN Member States as travel destinations by distributing information materials and setting up “ASEAN Quiz”board from which the visitors would access  various information on ASEAN countries.   During the EXPO, tourism promotion seminars for students were organized by Japan Student Tourism Association. Signing Ceremony: MOU on Tourism Cooperation between the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Myanmar and Japan Tourism Agency   On September 21, 2018, Mr. Masataka Fujita, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre was invited to attend the signing ceremony of MOU on Tourism Cooperation between the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Myanmar and the Japan Tourism Agency.  This MOU is aimed to strengthen friendships between the two countries, as well as to facilitate the economic development and increase the potential of tourism activities in both countries.  It is also expected that this MOU will further enhance tourism exchanges between Myanmar and Japan.   Website of Japan Tourism Agency (in Japanese) […]

Secretary General Fujita had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC)
On September 26, Mr. Masataka Fujita, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Chen Dehai, Secretary-General of the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC). SG Fujita expressed his appreciation to SG Chen for the invitation to “2018 ASEAN “the Belt and Road” Tourism Culture Exchange Week” in Guiyang.  Secretaries General of two centres agreed to continue strengthening their relationship in the context of ASEAN+3. They also discussed the promotions of increasing the tourist traffic among ASEAN+3, and sought the possibility of joint programs on the topic of the global value chain (GVC) in the East Asia.
