Report: Kick-starting Lao PDR’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2024 with an Innovation and Investment Forum
Information about Lao PDR chairmanship of ASEAN concerning their priorities, incentives and related events are successfully highlighted in the business mission arranged by the ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) from Dec 14-19. Several strategic partners that are aligned with Lao’s interests were connected and exchanged views with the delegate, leading to a high potential for collaboration between Japan and Lao during their essential year. Report: The Indo-Pacific Hackathon (IPH) titled “Japan-ASEAN Youth Strive for Circular Economy”
The Indo-Pacific Hackathon (IPH) titled “Japan-ASEAN Youth Strive for Circular Economy” was successfully conducted over a period of 6 weeks, culminating in the grand finale event we named “Green Day.” The Hackathon aimed to bring together the youth from the ASEAN Member States and Japan to foster innovation and collaboration towards achieving a circular economy. The youth especially those with entrepreneur mindset, were inspired and motivated to take the role of business on solving local environmental issues, towards circular economy by participating in the Hackathon. Report: The ASEAN-Japan Insights Webinar Series: The Future of Cross-Border Digital Payment Systems in ASEAN and Japan
ASEAN governments have recently launched the Framework for Negotiating the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (ASEAN DEFA) in September 2023 during the 43rd ASEAN Summit, to accelerate the establishment of a regional digital economy by 2025. This has been a long-awaited development in the region, as several ASEAN countries have gone ahead in establishing bilateral financial linkages through cross-border payment systems, such as Singapore’s PayNow with Thailand’s PromptPay (2016), Malaysia with Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore, Thailand’s PromptPay with Japan, Cambodia, Viet nam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Disseminating Information on investing opportunities to Malaysia’s high-tech industry: The booth, along with the seminar titled “Investment Opportunities in High Technology Industry in Malaysia” by Malaysia Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Tokyo specifically targeted this fair’s visitors.
