Report: The “Future Leaders’ Declaration on ASEAN-Japan Cooperation for International Marine Plastic Waste” project: Special lecture (online)

This year, the ASEAN-Japan Centre is implementing the “Future Leaders’ Declaration on ASEAN-Japan Cooperation for International Marine Plastic Waste” project, which is the first attempt to adopt and present a student-initiated declaration on the issue of international marine plastic waste between Japan and ASEAN member countries.

As part of the above project, on November 20, 2020, the Centre invited experts from the ASEAN Environment Division, the Ministry of the Environment (MoE) of the Government of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Kitakyushu Asian Center for Low Carbon Society, Environment Bureau, City of Kitakyushu, and the Clean Ocean Materials Alliance (CLOMA) to give a special online lecture to 22 undergraduate and graduate students selected from Japan and ASEAN member countries on issues and initiatives related to international marine plastic waste. Through the lectures, the students grasped the current situation of international marine plastic waste and deepened their knowledge and awareness of the issues, as well as actively engaged in question-and-answer sessions and discussions with the speakers from their respective fields of expertise.
