The11th Informal Meeting among Secretaries General of ASEAN-China Centre, ASEAN-Japan Centre and ASEAN-Korea Centre

The 11th Meeting among Secretaries General of ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC) and ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) was held in ACC headquarters in Beijing, China on May 30, 2018. The three Centres organize the annual meeting in turn since 2013; and the ACC was the host for this year. They have also met on the sidelines of the ASEAN Tourism Forum and other important meetings of dialogue partners.

At the meeting, Masataka Fujita, Secretary General of the AJC, as well as H.E. Mme. Yang Xiuping, Secretary General of the ACC and H.E. Mr. Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the AKC, shared their respective Centre’s strategic directions, and introduced their own flagship programs for FY2018. They also explored the possibilities of functional tripartite cooperation and confirmed specific cooperative activities for this year.

Through the meeting, the Secretaries General reconfirmed their commitments to further enhance synergies in accordance with the request from the ASEAN Plus Three leaders. Following the last year, they agreed on mutually sending participants to the youths exchange programs to be organized by the ACC and the AKC as well as sending their staff members to observe some of the main programs organized by other Centres. In this connection, the AJC offered the other two Centres to participate in the symposium to be organized on or close to August 8, 2018, in Tokyo on the founding anniversary of ASEAN.

In addition, before and after the meeting, the members of the three Centres participated in the networking program hosted by the ACC, in which they further deepened their close relations.

The regular meeting fosters cooperative relations among the three Centre, which contributes to tightened regional partnership in the ASEAN Plus Three context. The AJC will be the host for a series of three Centres’ meetings next year, and has made commitments to ensuring a success for these meetings.
