Mr. Masataka Fujita, Secretary General of the AJC, participated in the 13th ASEAN Leadership Forum (ALF), which was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on August 6th and 7th, 2016. The ALF is an annual forum organized by a Malaysia’s leading think tank, the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI), inviting leaders and high level officials from governments, prominent businesspersons, scholars and leaders of civil society, to deliberate on challenges, key trends, strategic issues and opportunities in the ASEAN region. SG Fujita attended the Forum at the invitation of the ASLI.
Under the theme of “ASEAN Community: Enhancing Opportunities and Shared Prosperity”, the ALF this year had a session focused on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP): “Towards RCEP – How Business Can Benefit from Closer Economic Integration & Connectivity”, on the second day, in which SG Fujita participated as a panelist. In the session, SG Fujita explained how a regional agreement has created new bilateral relations as well as why we need to conclude RCEP with a reasonable level of liberalization and promotion measures. He also exchanged his views on how the closer economic integration impacts on business and its benefit for the MSMEs, among others, with other panelists.
Prior to the panel sessions, SG Fujita attended the opening dinner and ministerial roundtable on the first day, where he broadened and tightened his networks with the Forum participants.
