The ASEAN-Japan Centre (AJC), represented by Tourism & Exchange Division, was invited to participate in the ASEAN Culture and Arts Cooperation Dialogue, which was held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 12-13, 2016.
The dialogue was held to introduce the ASEAN as well as stakeholders’ initiatives on culture and arts, and to explore partnership opportunities with wider stakeholders in the arts and cultural sector in the ASEAN region. It was the first effort for culture and arts sector in the ASEAN region to convene a dialogue meeting with a wide representation of stakeholders who work for the development of culture and arts in the region; it was participated in by ASEAN Dialogue Partner Centres, including the AJC, ASEAN-Korea Centre and ASEAN-China Centre, Non-Governmental Organizations, Cultural and Education Institutions, Private Sectors and ASEAN Secretariat.
During the dialogue meeting, the AJC shared its experience and made a presentation on its recent events organized at the ASEAN-Japan Hall to showcase fascinating cultures of the ASEAN region; its school-visit program to introduce the unique attractions of the ASEAN Member States to younger generation; and its participation in major cultural events in Japan featuring international friendship. The AJC also informed the participants that it is always ready and willing to cooperate with the other stakeholders to promote culture and arts of the ASEAN Member States to the Japanese society.
The dialogue meeting provided a valuable opportunity for the Centre to seek and strengthen the network of cooperation with other relevant organizations in its cultural activities.
